The One Fish Hotfixes
HOTFIX 1–3 from the first Early Access week, in playable language.
re:try shipped three hotfixes around the Small Update (8.13.26) during the first week of Steam Early Access. This hub keeps them in one place so you are not hunting Steam news mid-lobby. Dates sit on Steam; habits sit here.
If you only read one paragraph: match the version number in the top-right of the main menu, then open Lobbies and Troubleshooting. Most “unplayable co-op” threads in week one were version drift plus Friends Only.
HOTFIX 1 — events, mic, basket
Official bullets:
- Increased chance of events occurring during runs.
- Push-to-talk settings (disabling and enabling) for mic now work properly.
- Fixed fish sometimes disappearing from the ship basket.
Play translation: events are supposed to interrupt you more often (later tuned again in 8.13.26). Re-toggle PTT if mute was stuck on launch night. Do not store the whole feed in the basket—haul to The One Fish. Details on Hot Zones and Events and How to Feed.
HOTFIX 2 — scale, camera, suck-up, audio leftovers
Official bullets:
- Fixed Big Big Fish player scaling growing bigger and bigger.
- Fixed camera not in the correct alignment during Big or Small mode.
- Reduced the time The One Fish sucks up fish at round end.
- Fixed countdown sound still playing during game over.
- Fixed underwater player voice effects during underwater state.
Play translation: if someone is still expanding like a cartoon after a Big Big Fish, they need this depot. Camera-in-body and crooked Big/Small views belong here and in Size Modes. Faster suck-up at round end is a quality-of-life cut, not a scoring change. If a countdown sting loops after a wipe, you were on the pre-hotfix audio bug—update.
HOTFIX 3 — Friends Only and version boot
Official text:
- If join fails, check you share the same version (top right, main menu). A UI warning is planned for a later update.
- Fixed Friends Only lobbies in the main and chill mode.
- Boot back to main menu when entering a game with a different version, to avoid infinite loading.
Play translation: infinite load was often a silent version fight. The boot-to-menu is the fix working. Chill Mode Friends Only is included, so test social islands the same way you test feed lobbies.
Suggested install order after a messy night
- Steam verify files.
- Restart Steam.
- Compare version strings in Discord.
- Host a two-person Chill Mode lobby.
- Toggle PTT.
- Only then start a feed.
Put that order on the Launch Checklist so you stop improvising.
What hotfixes do not do
They do not add the Friday content drop. They do not publish redeem codes (Codes). They do not replace Patch 8.13.26 shop and hot-zone rules. If a friend cites “a hotfix” without a number, ask which of the three.
Reporting the next bug
Include: hotfix number you are on, party size (enemy caps scale with it after 8.13.26), main vs chill, Friends Only on/off, and whether Big/Small was active. That is how you talk to a studio that is clearly reading Steam news replies.
